LUBE & FOREPLAY FAQ

What is the purpose of foreplay?

To increase sexual arousal, build intimacy with your partner, and prepare your mind for sex. It’s great if you prefer a build up to sex or taking things slow.

How long should foreplay last?

As long as you want or need it to. Foreplay can last from 15 minutes to an hour! We recommend going with the flow. There is no such thing as too much foreplay!

What is lube? Are certain lubes better than others?

Personal lubricant, or lube for short, is a gel used during sex or masturbation to decrease dryness and unwanted friction. It is made with varying bases, such as water, silicone, oil, or hybrid (a combination of these, often of water and oil). Water based lubricants are the most versatile and popular as they are safe to use with silicone sex toys and condoms. It’s easy to wash off, won’t stain your sheets, and it's safe for sensitive skin. Silicone based lubes are great in that they last longer and need less reapplication, are hypoallergenic, all while feeling like you’re rubbing silk throughout your body! They are safe to use with condoms, however, because of their silicone bases, it is not recommended to use them with silicone toys as they will wear down the surface of your toys over time, causing abrasions which encourage bacteria to grow. Oil based lubricants are ideal for those who would prefer to apply lube only once. It is one of the few bases of lubes where reapplication isn’t necessary as oil based lubes can last a pretty long time! Plus, you can also use them in tandem with a sensual massage. Unfortunately, there are several downsides to oil based lubes. They tend to be difficult to clean up, even with water, and can stain sheets and clothes. They’re also more likely to break condoms during sex as oils break down the material condoms are made from. Additionally, they are also associated with higher rates of yeast infections.

Are some lubes made for different activities or purposes?

Ultimately, lubes are meant to help us get and stay wetter during sex. They can be used for anal sex, penetration, masturbation, and even with sex toys.

What are certain steps in foreplay, if there are any?

Foreplay is meant to help build sexual arousal between partners. You can start out by touching or rubbing your partner intimately and kissing or making out with them. This is usually enough to get things going for most, but foreplay can also include things like oral sex, anal play, sensory play, sensual massage, BDSM, breathwork, eye contact time, and a plethora of other things. There really is no definitive way to engage in foreplay. Whatever feels right is right!

What is a sensual massage?

Sensual massage is a great tool to use during foreplay to explore your partner’s body, increase pleasure, all while receiving or giving a massage! It’s usually meant as a leeway to sex as both partners usually get incredibly turned on.

What are the benefits of a massage before sex?

Not only is it a great way to relax and build intimacy with your partner, sensual massages provide the body an increase in blood flow, sexual arousal, and can help teach you and your partner about one another’s bodies. It’s also great for incorporating emotional intimacy into sex.

How can I have better foreplay?

Better foreplay is really all about becoming aware of you and your partner’s mind-body connection. Breathing deeply together, implementing sex toys, dirty talk, and communicating what you like, how you want it, and when you want it are all great ways to improve foreplay.

Does sensory play/deprivation help?

Sensory play and sensory deprivation are very subjective as they require good communication and you and your partner to trust one another. It most definitely can help and even is known to increase sexual experiences and orgasms for some!

What are the different types of foreplay?

Foreplay can really be anything you do with your partner before sex that increases sexual arousal. The most popular forms of foreplay include, oral sex, butt play, BDSM practices like spanking or sensory play, massage, and kissing or making out!
